Chadsen and Masumi Are Engaged!

I got to spend an evening with this adorable couple last weekend and we had such a blast!  There is something so fun about being around a young engaged couple.  They are so in love, and so excited to start their lives together.  Engagement is a dreamy, magical time.... getting a new sparkly ring, planning a wedding, trying on dresses like a real life princess, practicing your new signature with your soon-to-be new last name... how could an engaged couple not be happy!?  Engagement is a good time! And Chadsen and Masumi are a good time!  We spent the whole session joking and laughing.  I dare you to go through this post and NOT smile!  I know this pair has a lifetime of laughter and warm fuzzy feelings coming their way... I can't say that about every couple, but I'm sure of it with these two!

Congratulations Chadsen and Masumi!  You truly chose well, and I can't wait for you guys to start your lives together as husband and wife.  Masumi you will be a beautiful bride!  Chadsen is a lucky man :)

Mad Men

A couple of weeks ago I got to attend a Mad Men themed stylized shoot conceptualized and executed  by none other than the fabulous, Tonya Joy.  Her styling was flawless, her choice of model perfection.  We got to shoot the stunning Ashlee Christman and her handsome boyfriend Kenny.  The gorgeous hair and make up was courtesy of the fabulous Katrina, and was beautiful!  Seriously... professionally done hair and makeup for a shoot is the icing on the cake.  It makes such a difference in pictures!  If you can manage to get it done for your next shoot, I totally recommend doing so!

This was such a fun evening.  Getting to shoot something so dramatic and beautiful as a photographer is so refreshing and exciting.  It is so fun to shoot things that are just for fun!  And when you get to benefit from the incredible talents of so many wonderful artists, it is that much more of a treat.  Thank you to all the wonderful ladies who made this night so enjoyable.. you know how much I love and admire you... Can't wait for our next photographers night out ;)

Bri and Casey

Every pregnancy is exciting, but there is something magical about the first one.  I was talking with Bri last night after the session and we were going through pictures and I was telling her that there just is something extra special about maternity pictures with your first baby.  Because we are truly capturing life as it is. This time around there aren't kids at home with a sitter while we are pulled into a whimsical world of beautiful light, and perfect belly-accentuating outfits.  This is life!   Life is just you and your husband, and the excitement and wonder of what your belly holds.  First time moms don't look at their bellies with the "knowing" that a seasoned mother does.  That round tummy is an exciting, curious (mildly frightening) adventure that they're itching to start... you wonder what he'll look like, what he'll be like, what you will be like as a mom, if your husband will change diapers, if labor is as scary as you've read about in all your pregnancy books, if you will go to bed one night wake up in a puddle of water and skip off to the hospital, if he'll be bald, or if he'll be a crier.  You do your hospital tour, and all the recommended childbirth and infant care classes. You worry about having a monstrous sized baby.  You are elated, and freaked out all at the same time, that they will actually be sending this little baby home with you from the hospital.  It's magic. It's a magical time.  It's amazing, and it's beautiful.

I have been waiting for this day!  I knew Bri was pregnant before she could even believe it. When she tested, we analyzed and stressed over whether or not that little pink line was dark enough to in fact indicate that she was pregnant. I did the happy dance when she found out it was "most likely" a girl... and did it again when she found out it was actually a boy!  We oohed and aahed with her over his perfect nursery furniture and bedding.  We've played the name game.  We've had the shower.  Now it was time for the kickoff to my part in all this... picture time :)  It made me so excited for newborn pictures, the first year of family pictures... all of it.  But today we focused on that belly.  On the magic and wonder of what it held.  And she truly could not have been more beautiful.

I love Bri and Casey.  Love them!  Casey is hysterically funny.  He is loud, and talkative, and has never met a stranger.  He has the most infectious laugh, and you always want to join in when you hear it. He is one of my husbands best friends.  And Bri is one of mine!  She is smart, and quiet, and tremendously kind.  She is soft, and gentle, and compassionate.  They are perfect opposites, and perfectly matched.  They are a pair of the most loving people I know.  They are so thrilled for this little boy.  They can't wait for him to get here (and frankly, neither can I).  This will be a wonderful pair of parents to have... But until then, we get to watch the magic of the anticipation of that first baby.  And it is so beautiful...
